LAS VEGAS – NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin may not have won on the race track at the Penzoil 400 in Las Vegas, but he won big in blackjack. Hamlin took home the $300,000 first place prize in a legal blackjack tournament at a Las Vegas hotel.
The 53-time NASCAR winner posted himself holding the winning trophy on his Instagram. He went on to explain his path to victory on his podcast, titled Actions Detrimental, discussing his massive win and final table actions.
Hamlin Breaks Down $300,000 Blackjack Tournament Win
Hamlin told his audience that it was just his second live dealer blackjack tournament ever, with his first tournament coming last year. He made the final table there too, but the remaining six or seven players agreed to a chop.
“Interestingly enough, this year we got to the final table, and it was not a unanimous let’s chop the pot scenario… I was the third-highest chip stack of the four [at the final table] and I went all-in, I won the hand, leaped over both of the chop leaders and I won.”
Hamlin explained that you get 15 hands per table, and the top two players from each table advance until there’s only the final table with up to eight people. There are plenty of different blackjack variations and tournaments across Las Vegas, but Hamlin took home the first place prize at his hotel’s casino.
