DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Daytona Police Department busted an illegal gambling hall on Tuesday, their second in as many weeks. Monday’s bust is just another step towards cracking down on other illegal gambling halls fitted with slots and blackjack for real money across the city.
Police served a search warrant to a business off North Nova Road, which turned out to be an illegal gambling operation. It didn’t appear occupied from the outside, but past the blacked-out windows were at least 12 slot machines and other casino games.
The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) is aware of other non legal blackjack and gambling operations, meaning this won’t be the last one to be busted in the city. Illegal gambling halls attract customers because of their slots and Florida blackjack, but they end up acting as breeding grounds for violent crimes.
Daytona Beach Police Not Done Cracking Down Yet
Police Chief Jakari Young issued a warning for other illegal gambling operations in the city. “As I review crime reports, seeing certain addresses, they’re attached to violent crimes… shootings, robberies, batteries. We’re not gonna stop until we get them all,” said Chief Young in a statement to WFTV9 local news.
Police made one arrest in Monday’s bust. They also shut down an illegal gambling hall on April 18, which featured a large number of games and slot machines.
Three suspects were taken into custody from the first bust. They’re facing illegal gambling house charges and a gun charge.
