  • The 700-foot guitar-shaped hotel is expected to be constructed by May of 2027.

LAS VEGAS – July 17, 2024 is the official closing date for The Mirage as the iconic casino hotel undergoes transformation into Hard Rock Las Vegas. The landmark Las Vegas Strip location known for their blackjack expects to reopen in May 2027.

"While we pause for the incredible transformation of this iconic property, I'd like to thank all team members at The Mirage for their incredible commitment and helping us provide memorable experiences for our guests," said Joe Lupo, President of The Mirage in a press release. "We are planning to host collaborative hiring events with other employers in the Las Vegas community over the coming months. Connecting the thousands of talented Mirage team members who provide outstanding service with new employment opportunities is a top priority."

Thousands Of Mirage Employees Will Be Laid Off

Mirage President Joe Lupo said roughly 3,300 hotel employees would be laid off, including 140 day one employees. The nature of a complete closure and eventual re-opening three years later has many Nevada blackjack and hotel workers looking for employment.

As Lupo said in his press release, the staff will have an opportunity to find work through the resource center at what’s formerly known as The Mirage Buffet. Still, most job offerings for the laid off employees are at other Hard Rock Casino Hotel locations, such as the Seminole Hard Rock in Florida, which would require former employees to move to new states across the country.
