Man Leaves Baby Unattended in Car to Play at Cleveland Casino

  • A father left his 10-month-old baby in the car for roughly three hours to gamble at the JACK Casino in Cleveland.
  • The baby was taken to the local children’s hospital and then was released back to the family with no injuries.
  • Repeated offenses of parents leaving children to gamble have sparked some casinos to offer a form of daycare to prevent endangerment.

CLEVELAND – Police arrested a man at the JACK Casino in Cleveland on charges of child endangerment after leaving his 10-month-old baby in the parking garage for roughly three hours. While the man was inside the casino playing blackjack or other games, a couple called 911 reporting an unattended baby on the fourth floor of the casino’s parking garage.

The father, named Kyle Miller, pled not guilty to child endangerment and was released on a $15,000 bond. His child was taken to the nearby UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital as a precaution and was later released to family members.

Should Casinos Implement Measures To Prevent Child Endangerment?

It doesn’t require much common sense to realize leaving your child in the car to gamble is a bad idea, but the issue continues to occur in casinos across the country. Just a few weeks ago, three adults were placed on the Involuntary Exclusion list in Pennsylvania child endangerment cases for leaving their children unattended to gamble in the casino.

Parental responsibility and casino gambling are a bad match, but some casinos are stepping up by adding childcare facilities. This way, parents can at least leave their children with a responsible adult instead of unattended in a hot car.

Casinos in California and Washington added kid offerings that include a supervised area with games and entertainment. Having a childcare plan right at the casino would greatly decrease the number of children left unattended in casino parking garages.

Or, parents could play legal mobile blackjack and stay with their kids at home. Until more casinos add childcare services, playing online is the safest way to gamble for parents.
