North Carolina Tribe Breaks Ground on $700 Million Casino Resort Friday

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. – A massive $700 million casino resort will begin construction on Friday in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. The Catawba Nation settled a legal battle over the ground lease with a former casino developer and can now focus on breaking ground for the new resort.

The tribe will host a groundbreaking ceremony for those eager to see the start of a huge North Carolina blackjack spot. The permanent casino resort will be located roughly 35 minutes from downtown Charlotte.

Two Kings Casino Expands With Phased Development

Catawba’s temporary casino opened in 2021 with 1,000 slot machines, electronic table games, and a retail sportsbook. Later this summer, the location will see an extra 12 live table games for blackjack and more parking.

From there, the Catawba Nation will develop the permanent casino in two phases. First, the introductory casino with a two-floor, 1,600-spot parking garage, surveillance and security upgrades, and of course more slot machines and table games.

This phase of the development is expected to finish in 2026, then the casino will pivot towards building the full casino resort. In addition to the 400-room hotel, the full casino resort will include an increased casino complex with over 4,000 slot games, 100 live dealer tables, and 11 bars/restaurants.

Catawba Nation expects to employ over 2,200 people to keep the casino resort operating smoothly. Many have applauded the community impact in terms of new jobs that the new casino resort offers.
