Rhode Island Discussing Doubling Casino Gambling Credit Limit

  • Bally’s wants to double the gambling credit limit across their two Rhode Island casinos.
  • Bally’s Twin River Lincoln and Bally’s Tiverton currently offer a $50,000 gambling credit limit, but the Providence-based entertainment company wants it doubled to $100,000.
  • The move expects to attract more high rollers and stay competitive for blackjack and other table games with Connecticut and Massachusetts.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Soon high rollers may be able to bet more on the blackjack tables in Rhode Island. Bally’s Corporation, who own both Rhode Island casino properties, proposed the increase of gambling credit limits from $50,000 to $100,000.

The move to increase the gambling credit limit for blackjack and other casino games is to stay competitive with neighboring states and attract more high-stakes casino gamblers. Bally’s proposal drew negative concerns from Rhode Island residents, but Senate President Dominick Ruggerio supports the change.

Bill supporters eased concerns over financial oversight with rigorous credit checks and identity verification to prevent problems. This expects to only impact a small group of casino visitors, but there isn’t any official data available on the number of players with a $50,000 credit limit.

Neighboring Casino Competition Doesn’t Have Credit Limits

Supporters of the bill argue that the bill would reduce the need for high-rollers to make large cash transactions, making Rhode Island blackjack more attractive than their competitors. Other states, such as Connecticut and Massachusetts, operate their casinos without a credit limit entirely.

The competition is important considering the small state of Rhode Island is dependent on their casino gambling revenue. The Rhode Island Lottery, which oversees all lottery operations and gaming in the state, transferred $434.7 million to the State’s General Fund in 2023, the highest ever in state history.

The credit limit increase also helps state casinos compete with mobile blackjack sites that accept Rhode Island players. Bovada and other online blackjack sites offer flexible deposit limits for crypto and credit deposits.
